Declan Rorison is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, holding a Bachelor of Arts with a Joint Major in Political Science and Psychology, as well as a second Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Philosophy. Their academic work focused on human rights, social justice, ethics, social issues and inequality, and disability studies, shaping a strong foundation for their community-centered work.
Currently working as a Residential Counsellor with Highland Community Residential Services, Declan's commitment to community care, inclusion, and meaningful engagement is at the heart of their work. Prior to this role, Declan worked with the Government of Nova Scotia in both the Departments of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services, and Municipal Affairs and Housing, gaining experience in public service, administration, and policy-informed practice.
Driven by a passion for fostering connection and supporting others, Declan co-founded the Alma-Westville Community Program to help ensure everyone in Pictou County has access to food, education, and opportunities. Their work is guided by the belief that community empowerment starts with breaking down barriers and creating inclusive spaces where all residents can thrive.
Declan also serves on the Board of Directors for both the Pictou County Brass & Reed Band and All Voices Society, further demonstrating their dedication to advocacy, accessibility, and community leadership. With a background spanning nonprofit leadership, public service, and project coordination, Declan brings a thoughtful, equity-driven approach to their work. In their personal time, they remain an active musician with the Pictou County Brass & Reed Band.
